Elkton United Methodist Church Staff

Debbie Powell, Pastor

Reverend Debbie Powell

I’m a Southern girl from way back – Southern California that is. I was transplanted to Virginia when my husband retired from the Air Force. I graduated from the University of Maryland, in 1981 with a Bachelors of Science, majoring in Psychology. For many of our military years, I worked for overseas base chapels coordinating and directing Christian Education programs.
I have taken a circuitous road when it comes to ordained ministry. I attended Wesley Theological Seminary graduating in 1992 with a degree in Christian Formation with an emphasis in Education and Programming in order to better serve as a Christian educator. However, God placed a call in my life, moving me toward becoming the pastor, so I returned to Wesley and converted my degree into a Masters of Divinity in 1999. I was ordained an elder in 2001. I bring to Elkton UMC twenty plus years of experience in ministry. I am deeply privileged to serve God’s people in all times and truly appreciate the gift of sharing in each of your lives.
I’m married to Roger, who is also a United Methodist pastor – he is serving two churches in Amherst County. Together we have one son, Bryon who is married to Erin and our grandson Hanz just turned three.
I’m excited to greet each of you in the Name of our Lord and Savior and am looking forward to the ways in which we will serve Jesus Christ.
